Bypass work is picking up

| April 10, 2011 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Winter is giving way to spring, which means construction on the Sand Creek Byway is ramping up.

U.S. Highway 95 bypass contractors will be setting up traffic control measures and removing guardrail at the south end of the project starting on Monday. The work will also involve cutting through the asphalt road surface at this end of the project.

Work will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Motorists can expect ongoing, intermittent delays throughout the summer as the new construction is tied into existing U.S. 95.

The $98 million project is scheduled to be complete next year.

During the week of April 18-22, excavation will commence to widen the road for the installation of new guardrail north of the Long Bridge.

A construction update meeting is set for 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, at the Transportation Information Office at 202 North Second Ave. A weekly meeting schedule will go into effect May 5.
