Idling train does not make any sense

Regarding the coal train that has been parked, with the engines idling for the past five days in Kootenai. If you buy a house near the railroad tracks you have to accept the reality of trains, which I do. I like trains. However, I do not understand why it is necessary to keep the engine idling 24 hours a day, day after day while the train is parked.
This seems to be no only a waste of fuel, but an increase in air, and noise pollution as well as an inconvenience that could have been avoided.
If there is a logical reason to have had the engines running continuously I would like to hear it. Thank you.
