Lewis, Litzell lead Bulldog golfers at Post Falls Invitational

POST FALLS — Mike Lewis and Trevor Litzell each carded a 94 to lead the Sandpoint boys golf team to a 10th place finish among 12 teams  Monday at the Post Falls Invitational at Prairie Falls.

Conditions were brutal, as wind gusts of 40-50 miles per hour not only altered shots and even putts, but snapped a flag stick in half. Chris Lewis shot 95 and David Currie 96 for the Bulldogs, as head coach Jim Alsager said the conditions added about 10 strokes to each score.

“They all gutted it out, with no complaining, just went about their business,” said Alsager, whose team is right in the 4A mix with Moscow and Lakeland. “If we can knock off five strokes a side, our boys team will compete for state.”

Jessie Webster led the Bulldog girls with a 99, and Ashlie McIntire shot 110 on a day when select few girls broke 100. The Bulldogs finished third out of nine teams, as the Moscow girls dominated the field by more than 60 strokes.

The Bulldogs are at the Coeur d’Alene Invite on Monday.
