Burglar strikes 2nds Anyone?
SANDPOINT — Police are investigating the overnight break-in of a thrift shop that raises funds for Lake Pend Oreille High School and the Sandpoint Senior Center.
The burglary occurred either late Monday night or early Tuesday morning at 2nds Anyone? at the corner of Boyer Avenue and Pine Street. The store is a cooperative effort between LPOHS and the senior center.
Store manager Jan Christians said a cash till which held about $130 was taken, as were the contents of a donation jar.
Christians suspected whoever committed the theft likely cased the business beforehand.
“We did collect some evidence at the scene,” police Chief Mark Lockwood said, but declined to elaborate to avoid jeopardizing the investigation.
There were no other burglary reports in the neighborhood.
“We’re following a couple of leads,” said Lockwood.
Randy Willhelm, a teacher at Lake Pend Oreille High School, said entry to the business was gained by breaking out a basement window.
Christians said the store remains open for business. The computer terminal used to run the till and costly accounting software on the machine were not taken in the burglary.
“Honestly, we lucked out,” she said. “I know you’re not supposed to say that about a burglary, but we lucked out.”
