RATHDRUM — When it counted on Tuesday night, all the Lakeland Hawks had to do was look inside to get them back on the right track.

Senior post Jenna Davis scored 15 points to lead the Lakeland Hawks past the Sandpoint Bulldogs in the opening round of the 4A Region 1 tournament on Tuesday at Hawk Court.

Lakeland (11-10) travels to Moscow on Thursday at 7 p.m. to face the top-seeded Bears.

Sandpoint jumped out to an 8-2 lead before the Hawks battled back to cut the deficit to 8-7 after the first quarter.

“We got out to a slow start tonight,” Seymour said. “We got down 8-2, but I thought we did a good job of battling back. We started to get some stops on defense. Sandpoint did a good job of knocking down shots early in the first quarter.”

Lakeland outscored Sandpoint 21-15 in the second quarter to take a 28-23 halftime lead.

Buchmann hit a 3-pointer to put the Hawks up 51-42 with 1:14 remaining in the fourth.

Maggie Kirscher had 14 points, 11 rebounds and four steals for Sandpoint (7-14), which travels to the loser of Thursday’s game on Saturday.

“I thought we did a nice job in the first half and were able to score some transition baskets on them,” Sandpoint coach Lance Bruce said. “They got a bit of a lead on us in the second half. You’ve got to give them credit, they switched to a 1-on-1 game and broke us down.”

Sandpoint pulled as close as 44-39 on a Carissa Chatburn 3-pointer with 3:44 remaining, but could not get any closer.

“We couldn’t get those stops down the stretch to close that gap,” Bruce said. “The one nice thing is that we get another shot. Anything can happen. It just takes a game like this sometimes to get over the top.”

Freshman Kara Bruce scored eight of her 11 points in thesecond quarter.
