Fowler, Belgarde notch big pins against Vikings

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint freshman 103 pound wrestler Jerad Fowler notched an impressive 6-5 triple overtime win over Coeur d’Alene’s Chase Lincoln, and Garret Belgarde (119) pinned the Vikings’ Graison Le to lead the Bulldogs, who split wrestling duals with Coeur d’Alene and Kellogg Wednesday night at Les Rogers Court.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 21-0 win over the reigning 5A state champion Vikings, who took over from there en route to a 60-21 win. The Bulldogs then took down Kellogg 57-18 in the second half of the tri-match.
Bulldogs head coach Mike Randles felt his team wrestled well, calling it feast or famine having to face arguably the best 5A team in the state and a 3A squad on the same night. He had especially high praise for Fowler, who notched his biggest win of the season in triple overtime.
“It was a huge win. Chase was second at the Coeur d’Alene Invite where Jerad didn’t place,” said Randles of the improvement. “He got the win because he had a big heart.”
Kyle Csizmar (140), Mike Fowler (145), Josh Allen (160), Josh Wren (171), Matt Lockey (285) and Jerad Fowler (103) each secured pins against Kellogg.
“Overall, the varsity wrestled well tonight,” summed up Randles, also lauding the improvement of Allen in just his second year wrestling.
Sandpoint hosts Moscow in the final home match of the season on Tuesday.
