We need to stop trying to control one another

| February 3, 2011 6:00 AM

Rohm Emanuel said, “Never let a serious crisis go to waste.” A nutcase goes berserk in Arizona and liberal politicians go to work to capitalize on this sad occurrence with attempts to ban free speech, free expression and gun rights.

New York congressmen want laws banning any rhetoric that the government would deem threatening or violent.

Could a government commission be appointed to determine what we see, hear, read or write? They could determine any voices that differ or that are against their progressive viewpoint be threatening or inciting violence. Another wants a law that would regulate the amount and size of firearms a person may possess.

Arizona Pima County Sheriff wants to regulate talk radio, fox news and conservative publications because he feels that these are the cause. Sheriff, what happened to your oath of office to uphold the U.S. Constitution?

As it turns out, the gunman hates “government,” is a registered independent and has had prior issues with the involved congresswomen.

What about the First and Second amendments? Hate speech is morally and ethically wrong no matter what side says it.

What about our freedoms if these things are passed? Nothing would be protected from government intrusion, not your private lives, businesses or even your religion. We need to expend our energy on coming together, taking care of instead of controlling each other.
