SANDPOINT — Sandpoint 140 pound senior Kyle Csizmar celebrated Senior Night by exorcising some demons, pinning Moscow’s Gabe Davis in the third period to highlight a dominant showing by the Bulldog wrestlers, who dispatched Moscow 59-17 in a dual Tuesday night at Sandpoint High School.

Csizmar had lost both of the previous two meeting against Davis, but thanks to a stringent off-season workout program, had what it took to break through for his first win against an opponent he will most likely see again at districts.

So what was the difference the third time around?

“Putting in the time over the summer,” explained Csizmar after the match. “Working out with (Mike) Randles all summer long. That’s what made the difference, working my ass off.”

Garret Belgarde (119) was also honored on Senior Night, along with Dakota Blaese (130). Belgarde, who hopes to cap his career with another state title, did what he usually does, dominating his opponent en route to a first period pin.

Head coach Mike Randles lauded his trio of seniors, each of whom weathered a coaching change during their careers and aren’t afraid to put in some hard work.

“All three are kids of character, kids you can count on,” described Randles. “I’ve been fortunate and blessed to coach these kids.”

Matt Lockey jumped up a weight class to 285 pounds, giving up a bunch of weight and registering an first period pin, and Peyton Dillon (112) and Justin Pepperdine (189) also secured pins.

Troy Goodman (135) and Josh Allen (160) each won by technical fall, as Allen continues to catch his coach’s eye.

“He just keeps getting better and better,” said Randles of his junior. “For a kid who’s relatively new to the sport, he has a mind-boggling work ethic.”

Sandpoint will now rest up for the district tournament, on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Lakeland.
