SANDPOINT — Bonner County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a shooting which injured a man on Wednesday afternoon.

Very few details about the shooting were available at press time.

Undersheriff Bob Bussey said the shooting victim, who was not identified, was being flown by helicopter to a trauma center in either Coeur d’Alene or Washington state.

“He’s still alive,” Bussey said at about 7 p.m. “As far as right now, we don’t have a death.”

The shooting was reported shortly after 4 p.m. in the Upper Pack River drainage. Deputies responded to at least two locations after the shooting, one in the 1900 block of Upper Pack River Road and another on Makers Way, which branches off the west side of Upper Pack.

The precise location of the shooting was not immediately available.

Two people, neither of whom were identified, were detained for questioning. No arrests had been made as of about 7 p.m.

“We’re so early on in the investigation,” Bussey said.

Initial reports suggested the shooting was the result of a civil dispute. The victim reportedly suffered a chest wound, but was conscious and breathing when the incident was reported.

Those reports, however, could not be confirmed.
