We owe our children support on March 8

| February 10, 2011 6:00 AM

The Kootenai Elementary School PTA would like to publicly acknowledge the support of the Lake Pend Oreille School District supplemental/instructional levy up for voting on March 8, 2011. The Lake Pend Oreille School Board approved a resolution of $13,646,624 to be levied over the next two years.

After all of the federal and state cutbacks affecting our educational budgets, Lake Pend Oreille School District will use the levy to pay for one-third of staffing salaries, extracurricular activities, and sustained technological integration within the schools. This levy is designed to replace the existing levy. Without the valuable aid of the levy, our community is looking at a very poor educational future.

As PTA board members we are increasingly faced with the challenges of designing fundraising programs for the children of Kootenai Elementary School so they can participate in field trips, math and science tournaments, and various extracurricular activities supporting additional educational opportunities. We come together to support what our children need to grow successfully within the educational environment.

Our children need our support when going to the voting booths on March 8. They need us to come together as a community in support of their educational future. Our federal and state governments may be taking away their opportunities, but we must not.
