Timberwolves down Bulldogs

| February 11, 2011 6:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Mark Smyly hit 10 of 15 shots and poured in a game-high 32 points, leading Lake City past Sandpoint 71-46 Thursday night in nonleague boys basketball at Lake City High School.

The Bulldogs (9-10) played without top scorer Blaine Shultz, who wasn’t feeling well, and were never able to hang with the Timberwolves (14-4) on their Senior Night.

Cole Fuhrman led the Bulldogs with 18 points on 8 of 14 shooting to help pick up some of the scoring slack, and Jackson Olin added 11 points in defeat.

“We came out flat and Lake City came out hot,” summed up Bulldogs head coach Tyler Haynes. “We competed a little better in the third quarter, but cleared the bench when it (the lead) got to 20. It’s a downer, but we’ll find something to take away from it. Sometimes getting knocked down is part of the process to succeed.”

Sandpoint hosts Lewiston on Saturday on Senior Night, with tip off slated for 6 p.m. at Les Rogers Court.
