Cold first half dooms Cats

| February 12, 2011 6:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Clark Fork outscored Coeur d’Alene Charter 36-35 in the second half, but a dismal first half proved too much to overcome, as the Wampus Cats fell 74-48 to the Panthers in nonleague boys basketball Friday night in Coeur d’Alene.

Nate Nesbitt scored a team-high 19 points to lead the Wampus Cats (5-11), and D.J. Jackson returned from injury to score 14, but the game was essentially over early as Clark Fork dug a 36-12 half time deficit.

“The different gym has an effect on us. We came out cold and (Greg) Roman came out on fire, we couldn’t quite stop him,” said Cats head coach Corey Vogel. “I was proud of us for outscoring them in the second half. We relaxed and played like we did at Kootenai. We were patient and got into that rhythm.”

Greg Roman once again torched the Cats with a game-high 31 points to lead the Panthers (15-3).
