Extracurricular activities teach valuable lessons

| February 24, 2011 6:00 AM

I am a junior at Sandpoint High School. Please vote yes on Tuesday, March 8, for the replacement supplemental levy.

The teachers/staff at SHS are very compassionate. helpful, and good at what they do. 1 never feel awkward or intrusive when asking for extra help, and to see any of them let go due to a failed levy would be a shame. There is a good learning environment, it feels safe and comfortable to be at SHS, and I believe there is a good student-to-teacher ratio now.

I like playing sports for SHS because even if we don’t always win, we never give up and many valuable lessons are learned through competitive athletics. Eliminating sports would be extremely detrimental to the school’s atmosphere because there is so much camaraderie that comes from sporting events and activities. Also, eliminating any more technology would be a big mistake because it is the future of the world and 1, for one, want to be as prepared and equipped as I can be for the highly competitive environment that I will soon face.

Thank you for supporting Sandpoint High School and for furthering many beneficial activities that have already been implemented in this great learning environment. And as Dr. Meyer always says, “It’s a great day to be a Bulldog.”
