Chatburn leads Bulldogs past Badgers
SANDPOINT — Senior Charissa Chatburn scored a season-high 15 points to go with three steals, and the Bulldog girls ratcheted up the defense in the final three quarters of a 44-25 nonleague win over Bonners Ferry late Monday night at Les Rogers Court.
Chatburn finished a tidy 6-9 from the field, including three daggers from beyond the arc, and helped spearhead the Bulldogs defensively, as the Badgers scored just six points in the second half.
“I felt Charissa had her best overall game of the season on both ends of the floor,” said Sandpoint head coach Lance Bruce, whose team finished with a whopping 14 steals. “I was more impressed with her stepping it up on the defensive end with three steals and numerous tipped balls. Our defense was outstanding today.”
Maggie Kirscher posted her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 boards to go with four steals, Hailey Olin added six points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals and Kara Bruce added four points, three assists and zero turnovers at point guard. At times, the young and improving Bulldogs (5-7) had four freshman on the court, as Hannah Neumann and Nikole Alamillo joined Olin and Bruce to provide a glimpse of the future.
Senior post Markayle Acord finished with a team-high 12 points and Chelsea Taggart added seven points in defeat for the Badgers, who led 15-13 after the first quarter before cooling off considerably.
Sandpoint hosts Priest River on Friday.
