Bulldogs fall to 5A Vikings

| January 12, 2011 6:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Deon Watson scored 20 points and Chad Chalich added 19 on 7 of 8 shooting, spearheading a strong second half to lead Coeur d’Alene to a 72-60 win over Sandpoint in nonleague boys basketball Tuesday night at Les Rogers Court.

Sandpoint (5-6) got plenty of offensive production from their big three, as Cole Fuhrman, Blaine Shultz and Jackson Olin combined to score all but six of their team’s points in defeat.

The hot-shooting Shultz was 3 of 4 from beyond the arc, while Fuhrman was 4 of 6 long range, keeping the Bulldogs in the game before the Vikings (8-4) got rolling offensively in the second half, scoring 43 points to break the game open.

“They (Vikings) picked up the intensity in the second half and we didn’t match that,” said Bulldogs head coach Tyler Haynes. “That’s something we can improve on and get better at.”

Sandpoint is at Bonners Ferry for Moose Madness on Saturday night.
