Jared Loughner alone responsible for deaths

| January 18, 2011 6:00 AM

Like all of us, I was shocked at the news of the shootings in Tucson. However, I was even more disgusted by the comments coming from the media, various congress people and the sheriff of Pima County, Ariz., who were very quick to point their fingers at talk show rhetoric. If talk shows caused Jared Loughner to allegedly kill six people, then we also have to believe that some rock music leads to suicide. Unfortunately, my experience has been that the very same people who advocate limiting talk radio will vigorously defend a rap singer’s right to produce a song about abusing women.

I’m sickened to listen to those who are so willing to use the death and injury of others to advance their pathetic attempts to silence the voices of those who merely disagree with their opinions. The blood hadn’t even dried on the parking lot before Pima County’s Sheriff Dupnik began his irresponsible rant. And when confronted with his poor behavior, he took the tired and worn-out path of blaming Rush Limbaugh for Loughner’s actions. Loughner also worshiped a skull in a flowerpot perhaps he was inspired to that by Alice Cooper. Is Alice Cooper along with Limbaugh to blame? Cooper and Limbaugh both love golf, maybe they’re working together.

The left blames right-wing vitriol and the right points to reports that Loughner was a “left-wing pothead.” Loughner is neither a left or right-wing extremist, he’s just insane. I don’t blame the left or the right, I blame him – Jared Loughner alone.
