SOS should stand for save our seniors

| March 2, 2011 6:00 AM

SOS: Save our seniors.

The Lake Pend Oreille School District levy will crush struggling Bonner County businesses and force foreclosures on fixed income households. With record numbers of Bonner County residents out of work, gasoline predicted to be $4 to $5 by summer, and workers with jobs, taking pay cuts, now is the time to reduce expenses dramatically. Now is hardly the time to be asking the taxpayer for more money!

LPOSD, it is time to get fiscally responsible with what you have. We have all had to reduce our expenses as the latest recession rages on, why not LPOSD? Here’s why: Tax-and-spend policies of the last 60-plus years and zero accountability.

My family and I will vote no on March 8. I urge Bonner County to stand up to this poorly thought out levy, to save our businesses and our elderly.

Do not believe the scare tactics that our kids will die and democracy will break down, if the levy fails. LPOSD will do what you and I have had to do since 2008, get creative with reducing expenses. When you see SOS on a sign, think “save our seniors.” Seniors, the schools will still be there after a no vote on March 8.
