How does the field fit into levy picture?

| March 3, 2011 6:00 AM

Every time the school levy comes up, there are rumors, and I would like to know if this one is correct or not.

None of us want to short change the teachers or kids … but it seems there is extras that seem to sneak in to the expenses. So, is it true or is it not true, that $200,000 of this levy money is going toward Memorial Field repairs?

If this is true, the voters should be given that information. Some would OK with it and some might be upset later they voted and it wasn’t mentioned. So could someone in charge answer this honestly.

Editor’s note: The Lake Pend Oreille School District was asked for information regarding the question posed. The following is the response from Superintendent Dick Cvitanich: “The LPOSD, unlike other school districts, does not own a football field with stadium for football and soccer. As a result, we rent facilities from the city. We are the major users of these facilities and pay rent. User fees must go up to pay for the repairs of Memorial Field or the district can partner with the city on some of the repairs. The board determined they would spend $60,000 per year over two years to help with needed repairs as opposed to having increased user fees. Those dollars are contingent upon the amount of money the state allocates to school districts. We will not know that until the Legislature completes its work.
