Ignorance costs more than education

| March 3, 2011 6:00 AM

My thoughts on the upcoming school levy.

Currently, I can afford a small increase in my property taxes. Life has been good to me. However, in the past, when my children were young, I could not afford to take my children to the dentist on a regular basis. Neither could I afford to buy enough light bulbs for my home; so when company came over, 1 would move the bulbs from the bedrooms to the living room and bathroom so they would not see how many lights were burned out We did not take vacations. In fact, we could only afford to drive the 40 miles to see my parents twice a year. During those lean years. We never ate out at a restaurant. We were fortunate enough to be friends with a pig-farmer who shared with man of us what the grocery stores would throw away.

I tell you this in order to tell you that in all my adult life, I have never failed to vote “yes” in a school levy because I am a strong believer in education. If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.
