What's to admire in those destroying U.S.?

| March 17, 2011 7:00 AM

Years ago I took my young daughter to a museum of modern art. On the floor of one room was what appeared to be a large dog turd on a plate. We didn’t admire this artwork and left the people who did and went to another room featuring a framed solid black canvas. It looked like the “artist” used a roller to cover the canvas. It also had a crowd of gawkers. We left. We couldn’t seem to appreciate the art others did.

I find myself in a similar position today. I see people admiring a president and Congress that appear to see nothing wrong with destroying the country they took an oath to defend. The lies, cheating and bribery employed daily, which I abhor, are admired by others. I couldn’t understand how they could admire destroying the work of art that was once our country. Then I remembered the dog turd and the black on black painting and realized that people are different.

If you step in a dog turd you might not admire its intrinsic beauty. Something similar will happen when you fill up your car for $100 because we don’t want to drill for oil here.

If you are like those that can admire a black-on-black canvass, you will probably admire a government that strives to make all people equal even though it will destroy the ambition and dreams that drive people and makes our country great.

People see things differently.
