Are we forced to spend our money wisely?

| March 24, 2011 7:00 AM

Not too long ago, there was a levy voted on which gave more money to the school system. Was it a good investment?

I feel my money should go to basic subjects. I want to see the students get better in their basic skills and the teachers, too. Everyone involved should meet yearly competency tests. If the teachers don’t score high, they need to be given a short period to show improvement or be let go. Tenure is wrong and unfair to the students. Teachers need to be held accountable for every student — that is their job. If they can’t cut the mustard, they’re out of here.

Parents, you know you can help, too. I know there are parents who use public school as a government-funded or taxpayer day care.

As far as funding for more than reading, writing and arithmetic, that should be up to those involved. Funding for these activities should not be a taxpayer issue. People need to get off their keisters and do something.

Besides, the example being set for kids nowadays is take, take, take not give, give, give.
