Alamillo, Levora, Hill lead Bulldogs in track opener
SANDPOINT — Sophomore Nikole Alamillo threw 124-6 in the discus and put the shot 34-7 to win by big margins, Sam Levora beat the field by nearly 30 seconds to clock a 10:14 in the 3,200, and Paul Hill cleared 12-6 to beat his personal best by six inches in winning the pole vault as the Bulldog track team kicked off the season last Thursday at the Lewiston Invite.
Alamillo led a Sandpoint sweep in the discus, as Cassie Young (88-6) and Megan McCoy (87-11) finished second and third, respectively, as the Bulldog girls placed third out of four teams.
Mary Aylward, Lily DeAragon, Madie Slaton and Kennedy Kindred teamed up to win the 4x100 relay, while Rebecca Klopman-Boerselman, Shayna Kluver, Taylor Lunde and Katie Maddux finished third in the 4x200 for the Sandpoint relays.
DeAragon clocked a 13.61 to finish second in the 100, while Aylward finished third and Kindred fifth in a strong sprint showing for the Bulldogs. McCoy was fourth in the shot, Bre Jones (2:48) and Jenny Van Ooyen (2:49) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800, Alex Yaegur (7-0) finished fourth in the pole vault, and Sydney Foster (6:05) and Morgan Fulton (6:39) fourth and fifth in the 1,600 to round out the Bulldog girls in the top five.
In a sign of what could be a good year for the senior, Hill set a PR in the first meet, beating his state mark by six inches to lead the boys team to a fourth place finish out of seven teams. Just a sophomore, Levora continues to emerge as one of the top distance runners in the region.
Grant Kennaly (5-8) was second in the high jump, Chris Turnbull (12.17) was fourth in the hundred, ahead of teammate Jake Rookey (12.36), who finished sixth. Rookey also placed fifth in the 110 hurdles (18.38) and Todd Pays (122-0) was fifth in the discus to round out the boys top five placers.
