While not perfect, founders were better

| April 17, 2012 7:00 AM

We all are aware that the Founding Fathers were not perfect, but they were better. They did seem to understand the good fortune they possessed and were willing to try to enable every citizen to attain the same. The Constitution they created allowed every legitimate citizen the opportunity to get away from the “... oppressive monarchy ...”, a form of government, and to own property in their own name and to strive to improve their own lives without the overbearing restrictions of that government.

Freedom of choice was a rare and valuable commodity. The primary intent of the U.S. Constitution, it seems, was to limit the control of the government. The progressives believed in the government to lift up the people by choosing sides about who should win and who should lose. Our current society is testimony to how the government’s dominance is continuing to make freedom of choice a rare commodity.
