Hawks double up on Bulldogs

RATHDRUM — Bekah Kastning went 4 for 4 in the first game and drove in two runs in the second game as the Hawks swept the visiting Bulldogs 13-3 and 6-2 in a 4A Inland Empire League softball doubleheader Thursday at Lakeland High School.

Maggie Kirscher and Kayanna Quigley each hit a double for Bulldogs (2-7, 0-6 4A IEL) in the first game, but an 11 run first inning by Lakeland (7-5, 5-1 4A IEL) proved too much to overcome. Casey Bottomley relieved starter Maggie Kirscher in the first inning, then held the Hawks to just two runs in three solid innings of work.

“We hit the ball really well in that first game,” Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said. “They kept us off balance in the second game. Overall, I thought we played well as a team today.”

Carlie Hoerth was solid on the mound in the second game, holding the Hawks to just six runs in six innings of work. Hoerth had two hits, including an RBI double, to lead the Bulldogs’ offense.

Sandpoint hosts Coeur d’Alene on Saturday in a doubleheader at noon at Travers Park.
