External reviews are a common practice
As I watch the events unfold over the external audit of our county I find the reactions very interesting. Considering what Commissioner Mike Nielsen has pursued to keep our county within what is mandated by the state, and seems to be so foreign to those in office within our county, the results aren’t surprising.
External audits are common and are an effective tool to ensure accountability, as well as keep our county affairs in proper order. I can understand the uneasy situation that Boner County Clerk Marie Scott and Bonner County Treasurer Cheryl Piehl find themselves in as this is new to them, but it is common practice with all-too-many organizations and should be seen as clarification that they have been doing a good job.
If issues do come up they should be seen as areas of improvement and not as failure to do the job right, as we all are prone to making mistakes and should be seen as an aid to correct such error.
