Broadsword isn't a moral conservative

| April 26, 2012 7:00 AM

I would like to caution those who support the life of the unborn against Bonner County Commissioner candidate and current Idaho senator, Joyce Broadsword.

In 2011 Broadsword voted against Senate Bill 1165, which makes performing abortion after 20 weeks a felony. She was one of only three Republicans, including Shawn Keough, to vote against the bill. I confronted her on this at the Northside forum and she told me that she didn’t want to put the taxpayer at risk of lawsuits against the state.

This essentially communicated to me that the unborn children are just not worth the cost of potential litigation. It shows that life should only be protected when with minimal complication. It should be noted that the bill did set up an account funded by non-state money that would help cover costs if litigation ever were to come.

Along with this bill she voted against House Bill 230, which would make it a crime in Idaho to use another’s Social Security number to obtain public welfare benefits. Therefore, one intent of the bill was to provide criminal penalty against illegal aliens that would use a citizen’s Social Security number for welfare.

In examining Broadsword’s record, it doesn’t appear that she is the moral or fiscal conservative that she claims to be. If she wasn’t such in the Senate she won’t be as commissioner. She refused to protect the unborn and refused to protect the financial security of Idaho citizens. Please research the issues and make an informative decision.
