Obey limit and don't put others at risk

| April 29, 2012 7:00 AM

What is a speed limit for if it is never observed or enforced?

It seems that trying to drive anywhere close to the limit results in being tailgated by angry, aggressive drivers who flip you off for not wanting to drive 35 mph in a 25 mph speed zone, or 60-plus in areas with blind curves that are posted at 50 mph or 75 mph on either side of Highway 95.

This is a daily occurrence by drivers with 7B plates, although drivers from Kootenai County, Washington, Montana and Canada are also regular offenders.

I have tried slowing down, tapping on my brakes, pulling over — the latter is temporarily effective until another glut of speed demons catch up to me.

For a while I actually wondered if my speedometer was off, but the speed trap sign across from Safeway confirms that it is accurate.

I drive at or slightly above the speed limit; I don’t feel that the lives of my children should be put at risk by drivers who are seemingly unable to decipher two simple numbers and drive accordingly.
