Rosholts, Feist getting busy in the cage

SANDPOINT — A trio of former Sandpoint and college wrestlers from Team Takedown Fighters have upcoming Mixed Martial Arts fights on tap.

First up is Jared Rosholt, the former Oklahoma State wrestler who is 4-0 inside the cage. Rosholt, one of the up and coming heavyweight fighters in MMA, will face Derrick Lewis (7-2) during the Legacy 13 Fighting Championships on Friday, Aug. 17 in Dallas.

Like many elite wrestlers, Rosholt made the jump to MMA to keep competing at a high level. Friday’s fight is a definite jump up as far as the level of opponent, as Lewis is regarded as one of the top heavyweights in Texas.

“I’ve competed at the highest level of wrestling other than the Olympics and even then I’ve worked out with many Olympians,” Rosholt said in a recent interview. “This fight is one that I’ve been building up for — not personally with Lewis, but anybody with a good record.”

Older brother Jake Rosholt is looking to get his MMA career back on track when he faces the extremely dangerous Anthony “Rumble” Johnson during  Xtreme Fight Night 8 on Sept. 21 from the Tulsa Hard Rock Casino in Oklahoma.

Rosholt (12-4) is looking to get back into the UFC after a brief stint early in his career, and a win over Johnson would go a long way. The former All-American wrestler, who was voted one of the top 10 athletes of the decade at Oklahoma State in 2010, is 5-1 with a no decision in his last five fights since being dropped by the UFC after a 1-2 stint.

Former Sandpoint and Portland State wrestler Chris Feist (4-0) will look to remain unbeaten when he tangles with Micah Franks (3-1) during the Premier Fight Series 2, on Sept. 22 in Fort Worth, Texas.
