BONNERS FERRY — Community members wishing to pay their respects to a local soldier killed in Afghanistan can do so when a motorcade carrying his body comes into the city on Friday.

A motorcade with Martin’s body is expected to pass through Bonners Ferry at about 11:30 a.m., according to Col. Tim Marsano, public affairs officer with the Idaho National Guard. The time of arrival is approximate.

Law enforcement officials said the best place to do so is in the vicinity of Boundary County Middle School, 6577 Main St.

Spc. Ethan J. Martin, 22, died Aug. 7 in Koragay, Afghanistan, of wounds he suffered when his unit was attacked by enemy small-arms fire. He was assigned to 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

Martin’s funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bonners Ferry High School. A ceremony with full military honors will follow at Paradise Valley Cemetery.

His family has described Martin as a “very loving young man with a tender heart,” who planned to go to nursing school after his service in the military.

Martin leaves behind a loving family and many friends in North Idaho. His family includes his father, Harv (Pam) Martin of Bonners Ferry; his mother, Kristie (Bob) Suprenant of Lewiston; a sister, four stepsisters and three stepbrothers; and his grandparents, Harvey (Gail) Martin of Quartzside, Ariz., Paulette Marcy of Sandpoint and Fran Oakes of Lewiston.

An account has been set up to help the family of a soldier killed in Afghanistan with funeral expenses. Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank to the Ethan Martin Memorial Fund.
