NIC board election set

| August 19, 2012 7:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — There are three seats up for election in November on the North Idaho College Board of Trustees.

The positions, now held by Judy Meyer, Mic Armon and Ron Vieselmeyer, will appear on the general election ballot.

The deadline for candidates to file their declarations/petitions of candidacy is Aug. 31 at 5 p.m.

To date, no candidates have stepped up.

“There is still two weeks before the deadline, so at this time, I don’t see any reason to be concerned,” said Stacy Hudson. “I fathom that this is normal this early in the process.”

Individuals who miss the Aug. 31 deadline will not be placed on the ballot. They may file as a declared write-in candidate if they file a declaration of intent no later than 5 p.m. on Sept. 21.

NIC is governed by a five-member board of trustees elected at large from within Kootenai County for staggered terms.

Each of the three seats up for election is for a four-year term.

To be eligible, a candidate must be at least 18 years old, a resident of Kootenai County for at least 30 days prior to the election and a registered voter. Candidates must also obtain at least five signatures from others meeting the same elector requirements on a nominating petition.

Declaration/Petition of Candidacy forms are available in the NIC Office of Resource Management, located in Lee-Kildow Hall Room 111, or the Kootenai County Elections Office at 1808 N. Third Street in Coeur d’Alene. Completed forms are to be returned to the clerk of the North Idaho College district in the Office of Resource Management by 5 p.m. on Aug. 31.
