Scott, Robinson lead Bulldogs to tie with Lake City
COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Sierra Scott scored in the 18th minute, and Sandpoint nearly made the goal stand up, notching a 1-1 tie with Lake City in a nonleague girls soccer opener on Tuesday at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.
Scott’s goal was assisted by Meghan Pagano, and the Bulldogs (1-0) kept the Timberwolves scoreless right up until the end with some stellar defense by Alanna Robinson.
“I was happy with the play of Meghan Pagano at center mid, which is a new position,” said first year coach Conor Baranski, also lauding the play of Robinson. “Alanna stepped up and stopped their main player.”
Jen Snow scored the equalizer in extra time for the Timberwolves (0-1), who out-shot the Bulldogs 6-4 in a game with few chances.
“I thought Sandpoint was composed and ready to play the first half and had the run of play,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “We made some adjustments in the second half.”
Sandpoint hosts Lewiston on Thursday, at 5 p.m. at War Memorial Field.
