Gun bans unconstitutional, won't save any lives
Mr. Ramsey (in response to Aug. 9 letter referencing guns) in the year 2010, the NHTSA shows 32,885 deaths in crashes; 10,228 were related to excessive speed.
This year, there have been 9,369 murders with firearms. I am not saying this number is trivial as all life is valuable, but if you wish to ban high capacity magazines under the guise of saving lives, then efforts should be taken to ban people from possessing cars that go over 55 mph for anyone but people who have to commute to work and 25 mph for people who work and live in town.
After all, why would a civilian need to have that kind of power?
We can ban alcohol and not only end the highway slaughter related to speed but to DWI as well.
The real problem is a culture bent on blaming everyone else, as well as media that will sensationalize every shooting, but just one for example, the July 27, Aurora, Colo., incident when a gunman burst into a church, would not lay down his weapon, and was neutralized by a citizen with a legal CCW.
The media only wants one kind of gun story, the bad kind. You are the only person responsible for your safety. Unless you’re at gunpoint in the police station, don’t expect to be saved by a cop; there are not enough of them and they are too heavy to carry with you. If it is safer in Long Island because of an unconstitutional ban, then go there.
