Spokane-to-Sandpoint event a pain for some

| August 28, 2012 7:00 AM

As a full-time, year-around resident who lives on a private road off of Lakeshore Drive, I am used to the running and bicycling events that have taken place over the last few years.

Every year, it seems the drivers in the sag wagons and teams are getting ruder and ruder. One year someone decided to plant a Port-a-Potty at the end of our private road. It was a major ordeal to have it removed. No person or group has ever sought permission to use our road for their events. I was told by one of the organizers that only county roads were supposed to be used for these events.

This year my private driveway, which is off of Lakeshore Drive, was occupied by three cars full of avid runners. Right there, behind my “keep out” sign and in front of another “keep out” sign, people sat and when asked to move to a county road, refused. The runner made a rude comment. I decided to walk away. In the day of everyone’s special interest groups having more rights than private homeowners, what are we to do?

Note my sign did not say “Welcome runners from Spokane leave your garbage and attitudes here.”
