Romney/Ryan ticket is just what we need

| August 30, 2012 7:00 AM

I have to say that Mitt Romney’s pick for vice president caught me totally by surprise. I had figured on him tapping a running mate from a swing state to shore up his electoral vulnerability. But he made a courageous and brilliant decision with Paul Ryan. Romney risked his election to bring the deficit and the looming fiscal catastrophe surrounding the national debt to the forefront of the campaign debate. Ryan is probably the most knowledgeable figure in government today to help our country reform entitlement programs so they will survive the coming years. The man has the honesty to look you in the eye and tell you the truth as he sees, it even if it’s not what you want to hear. How refreshing.

Romney has already proven his strength in leadership by making this essential choice for vice president. He is a model for success at business and understands what is necessary for government and a capitalistic free economy to prosper. I admire his role as a family man and his well-known philanthropy. The Democrats like to demonize him for his wealth, quite frankly I don’t want a Wall Street occupier in the White House. I want a classy guy with experience in business and governing. I want a guy who understands the importance of a slimmed-down federal government. I want a guy with the vision Mitt has displayed including Ryan on his ticket and meeting fiscal restraint head on. I want an administration who will reform entitlements so future generations will have them for the needy not the lazy.

I am elated at the Republican ticket this November. Voters have a clear choice between us all working for the federal government or them working for us.
