Bulldogs primed for season opener tonight

| August 31, 2012 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — It’s finally time, football fans.

The new look Bulldogs, featuring new uniforms, new schemes and a new coach — sort of — kickoff the 2012 season tonight against East Valley.

Head coach Satini Puailoa returns to the sidelines after an eight-year hiatus, looking to return the program to the level he established the first time around.

East Valley returns 15 starters, and is picked by many to win the Great Northern League this season. Quarterback Taylor Watkins and running back Adam Talley were both instrumental in the Knights’ 37-13 win over the Bulldogs last season.

A lot of questions will be answered tonight for the Bulldogs, who are hungry to improve upon last year’s disappointing one-win season.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Barlow Stadium.

• Clark Fork hosts Mullan

CLARK FORK — Fresh off a 44-8 shellacking of Lewis County in their opener last Friday, the Wampus Cats will look to make it two in a row tonight when North Star League rival Mullan comes to town.

A win tonight will give the Cats (1-0) an early season edge in the 1A Division II playoff race with Mullan and Kootenai.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. in Clark Fork.
