Hubbard leads Colville to victory

SANDPOINT — Colville’s Matt Hubbard displayed why he is a highly-touted college basketball recruit, almost single-handedly leading the Indians to a 46-39 win over the Bulldogs in nonleague boys basketball Saturday night at Les Rogers Court.

The 6-foot-9 junior scored 26 points, including 4-5 from beyond the arc, to go with 21 rebounds and five blocks, showing why he’s being recruited by the likes of Gonzaga, Portland, EWU, Idaho and Pepperdine.

“That was incredible, he’s legitimate,” said Sandpoint head coach Tyler Haynes of Hubbard’s performance. “An individual who just took the game over.”

The Bulldogs (0-2) came out pressing early and pushing the tempo, building a 15-8 lead after the first quarter. Thomas Edwards led the balanced Bulldogs with eight points, Isaiah Lutz added seven and Nick Nelson six points and six rebounds in defeat.

The Bulldogs battled back in the fourth quarter to tie the game with just over two minutes left, before the Indians (2-0) finally put the game away.

Sandpoint hosts Priest River on Tuesday.
