Williams nets game winner for Bulldog girls
SANDPOINT — Junior Karlee Williams was 5-5 from the field, including the game-winning basket with 30 seconds left, leading the Bulldogs to a 55-52 win over Colville in nonleague girls basketball Saturday night at Les Rogers Court.
Hailey Olin had another solid all-around game, scoring 10 points to go with five assists, five rebounds and two steals. Her flurry of points helped ignite the Bulldogs to a double-digit lead in a decisive third quarter.
Colville chipped away at the lead in the fourth quarter, eventually tying the game at 52-52 in the final minute. With 30 seconds left in the game, Williams caught the ball on the block, spun under the basket and nailed a four foot shot to put her team ahead for good.
“What can you say about Karlee? When she’s naturally in the flow of the game, she has some upside and potential,” said Bulldogs head coach Bill Bender of his 5-11 post. “We went deep into our bench and got excellent minutes.”
Freshman Madi Schoening finished with eight points, seven rebounds and three steals and Nikole Alamillo added 11 points for the balanced Bulldogs (3-3), who played extremely well in the first and third quarters and far more inconsistent in the second and fourth.
Sandpoint hosts Priest River on Tuesday.
