Congress fiddles while Washington, D.C., burns

| December 4, 2012 6:00 AM

Citing IRS data, the top 25 percent of earners pay 87 percent of the federal tax bill, while the bottom 50 percent pay 2 percent. So tell me again the wealthy don’t pay their fair share.

The non-partisan Tax Policy Center estimates that in 2013 a middle income family will pay $2,000 more in taxes if current White House/congressional policies prevail.

The OMB estimates the 2013 through 2017 deficit will be $3 trillion. This will take our national debt to around $20T, with more to come as Congress continues their policy of spend and borrow. No worries, at a billion taxpayer dollars a day we’ll have it paid off in 55 years.

Numbers such as these are the reason(s) I fail to comprehend why anyone would vote D.C. incumbents back in office. The White House approach to deficit reduction is political bunkum, and our highly regarded, wildly successful Congress will continue to do what they do best, i.e. fiddle while Rome burns.

Our best days are ahead in spite.

God bless America, and God bless our military.
