Pay attention and drive safely
On July 27, the day the Sand Creek Byway was opened, my husband and I were driving home on Highway 95 South. With our left turn signal on, waiting for a break in the oncoming traffic, we were rear-ended. Our car was totaled, and we were bruised and battered. Given that the driver of the pickup didn’t appear to have applied any brakes, we were lucky to walk away from the accident at all.
The speed limit has been decreased to 45 mph through Sagle in hopes to reduce the number of accidents with an increasingly higher volume of traffic turning and merging in the Sagle area. However, the speed quickly increases when the lanes reduce from four to two, making a dangerous situation for those of us who live off Highway 95, and need to turn across oncoming traffic to get home. Please be alert and pay attention to the vehicles in front of you, and drive safely.
We’d like to thank all those who came to our aid that day: Topper Kevin Bennett, Officers Riffle and Scholten, and the great guys at the Sagle Fire Department.
We’d also like to thank the helpful man who was traveling with his family on his way to Montana. He called 911 and also called my daughter. He even called to check in with us a couple of days later. He was genuinely a fine human being. There was also a nice woman who helped my daughter carry all our groceries, which we really appreciated.
