Speak out against white supremacists

| December 11, 2012 6:00 AM

Silence is acceptance!

I recently saw a news report that the Aryan Nations (white supremacists) that were for years in Coeur d’Alene and finally forced to leave are trying to purchase and/or build a compound around Hoodoo Mountain in Bonner County.

We, as a community, should be concerned, very concerned and do everything we can to keep it from happening and/or persuade them to go elsewhere. I cannot believe that there is anything good that can come of this. It is a horrible commentary on us if we allow it.

I moved to the area, not too many years ago and when I told people I was coming here, they asked me “Isn’t that where the white supremacists live, parade, celebrate and apparently welcomed?” Nationally, that is what people remember and unfortunately what we were known for. It is those same folks that come as tourists and spend money. They retire here, increase our property values and all things equal will go somewhere else.

The choice is ours on whether to keep quiet or not.
