Alleged thief waives hearing

SANDPOINT — A Bonner County woman accuse of embezzling from her former employer waived her right Wednesday to a preliminary hearing.

Monica Rose Reeves’ waiver amounts to tacit agreement that the state has enough evidence to justify trying her for grand theft in 1st District Court.

Reeves’ district court arraignment is set for Jan. 7, 2013. She is free on her own recognizance while the case is pending.

Reeves, 31, is accused of embezzling from Sandpoint Building Supply in Ponderay, where she was a bookkeeper. Charging papers allege she committed the thefts from 2008 to 2011.

Reeves, according to Ponderay Police reports, wrote up orders for returned merchandise and applied the proceeds to two personal credit cards. She’s further accused of stealing cash and fabricating returns to conceal the thefts.

Reeves confessed to committing some of the thefts, a Ponderay Police report states.

Company officials contend Reeves took more than $30,000 from Sandpoint Building Supply during the four-year period, according to court documents.
