West Valley sweeps Sandpoint in doubleheader

| December 15, 2012 6:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Freshman Madi Schoening drained two 3-pointers among her team-high nine points, but the shorthanded Bulldogs ran out of gas in the second half against West Valley, falling 41-27 in nonleague girls basketball Friday night at Les Rogers Court.

Schoening also added four steals, as the Bulldogs played without the services of starters Hailey Olin and Kendra Corless, who missed the game with injuries.

Sandpoint head coach Bill Bender said his team lost a little of its confidence without Olin, who is out with an ankle sprain for another few games.

“There’s a feel-good factor when you’ve got your quarterback on the floor, and our quarterback is clearly Hailey,” said Bender, using a football analogy to explain the absence of his best player. “The belief factor has slipped away from us. We’re trying to believe, but when we doubt, we become ineffective.”

Nikole Alamillo made 3-4 field goals for six points, Emma Liband added six and Karlee Williams pulled down five rebounds for the Bulldogs (6-5), who will look to bounce back tonight at East Valley.
