Bulldogs swept by Badgers, Vikings

BONNERS FERRY — Junior captain Lewis Dunton (132 pounds) notched two solid wins, leading the Bulldogs in a pair of dual losses to the Vikings and Badgers on Tuesday night at Bonner Ferry High School.

Dunton beat David Chapman 3-0 to highlight a 36-33 loss to the Badgers in the closer of the two duals for Sandpoint (1-3), which also fell 59-25 to 5A power Coeur d’Alene.

“Lewis avenged a loss to a kid that pinned him last year,” said Bulldogs head coach Mike Randles. “Against Bonners Ferry we were trying to redeem ourselves. The kids came out and battled, and just missed getting the win.”

Jake Williams, one of a handful of freshman seeing action, pinned Badger Mark Grow in 3:40 to earn the praise of his coach.

“Jake stepped up to the plate and hit a home run,”said Randles.

Dunton and Brent Buchmiller (126) both notched solid wins against the Vikings, as did Jonathan McCormick, who also went 2-0 on the day.

“Lewis and Brent both knocked off returning state placers,” said Randles. “Against Coeur d’Alene, we’re asking our freshmen to do a lot. They fought hard, but it was a matter of experience.”

The Bulldogs return to action on Dec. 29 at the Freeman Invitational.
