Perceived threat prompts lockdown

OLDTOWN — Idaho Hill Elementary was placed in lockdown mode Wednesday after a perceived threat toward a staff member at the school.

Bonner County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident and found no threat to the school, according to a press release from West Bonner County School District Superintendent Dr. Ellen Perconti.

“The staff responded responsibly and ensured that students were safe and cared for. The lockdown procedures were followed and were effective,” Perconti wrote in the press release.

West Bonner County School Board trustees were in session the night prior and discussed the use of restraint, seclusion and adversive techniques for students. Trustees approved a new policy to provide staff members with de-escalation and restraint training.

The lockdown comes on the heels of last week’s tragic school shooting in Newtown, Conn.
