OLDTOWN — Law enforcement authorities are pursuing a woman who attempted to hold up a convenience store last Tuesday.

An unknown female made a clean getaway but didn’t walk away with anything of value after attempting to hold up DJ’s Convenience Store on Highway 2 east of Oldtown.

The woman is described by sheriff’s deputies as standing between five feet two inches and five feet four inches in height and likely weighing between 140 and 180 pounds. She has four star tattoos visible on the sides and back of her neck.

At the time of the robbery, she was wearing a brown T-shirt over another long-sleeved shirt and kept what appeared to be rubber dishwashing gloves on her hands. Her blonde hair was shaped into a pony tail. Det. Christian Frye said she carried a black handgun in both hands but seemed to favor her left hand.

The attempted robbery took place at about 8 p.m., according to Frye. After milling around outside the store for a few moments to check out her surroundings, she pulled headed inside and confronted the clerk.

“She seemed to be interested in the cash register,” Frye said.

However, the clerk wasn’t giving up the store’s cash reserves that easily. The employee informed the attempted robber that the police were on their way, and she decided to make good her escape.

The suspect made her way to a vehicle of an unknown make and model and was believed to drive westward toward Newport, Wash.

“She decided she didn’t want any part in that,” Frye said.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived to investigate the scene, they didn’t find much with which to work. According to Frye, they canvassed the area and used dogs to track the footprints she left outside, but other than that, the video captured by security cameras and witness accounts, there was little evidence left behind.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of this suspect should contact the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office.
