Local GOP leadership lacking insight
The recommendation by the local GOP leaders in the central committee is both foolish and life-threatening. The fact that it is also so heartless in its timing makes it seem purposefully hurtful and cruel.
As two professionals who teach and volunteer in our elementary schools, we don’t recall having seen any of these so-called “leaders” stepping up to the plate to help our children face-to-face. Had they done so, had they actually put any effort into helping our kids in person and inside the schools, they would realize that their love and support — not the horrifying potential of more bullets flying in school hallways — is what will turn this tide of violence and death toward life and goodness.
I am calling on our elected GOP officials to make their stand known immediately on this issue. I have supported them in their legislative efforts in the past. However, if they support their central committee’s ridiculous notion that turning our schools into the modern day equivalent of the Wild West and inviting future shoot outs is anything resembling a solution, they can count on me to stand up against such folly.
Take a deep breath and think, next time, before such a dangerous idea is made public.
In the spirit of loving and protecting our children,
