First quarter costly as Wampus Cats girls fall

| February 5, 2012 6:00 AM

CLARK FORK — Brocklynn Thornton posted a double-double with 10 points, 10 boards and four assists, but a 19-4 first quarter proved costly as the Wampus Cat girls fell 47-32 to Stillwater Christian on Saturday night in nonleague action at Clark Fork High School.

Celeste Komanec added eight points, and Dimi Kailang grabbed four steals, as the Wampus Cats (12-6) played the bigger Montana school evenly after the first quarter.

“We kind of faltered and gave them some easy layins. We have to get over that hump of dealing with adversity,” said Cats coach Dexter Vogel, lauding his team’s moxie. “They don’t have any quit in them, which is good for us. We’ll get our offensive woes squared away.”

The Wampus Cats will await the winner of Kootenai and Mullan in the 1A Division II next week, after going undefeated in North Star League play.
