Books needed for reading program

| February 16, 2012 6:00 AM

Children, ages 8-18, whose families are involved in child protection court cases often attend hearings. Being in court can be scary for kids.

To help make their experience more comfortable and interesting, Court Appointed Special Advocates), with the support of our local magistrate judges, offers a collection of books to these children to look through while waiting for hearings and then take one home. The Judges also hope these books will encourage the children to develop good reading habits.

We need some help from the community to keep the selection well stocked with new or gently used story books, puzzle and game books, colorful journals and sketch books. It is a joy to see children relax a little when they are exploring the books and deciding which to take home.

Anyone who would like to donate to Books for Kids in Court can contact the local CASA office at 255-7408.
