We can't force caribou to stay in the Selkirks
Mr. Smith, thank you for your words of wisdom, and although it is very apparent they are sincerely meant, your facts in the matter seem a bit confused.
If you will recall, a plan to reintroduce the caribou to this area back in the 1970s, spending thousands of taxpayer dollars, failed miserable while the caribou continued on their preferred migration north into Canada and Alaska. We are again faced with folks trying to do the “right thing.”
The old saying “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink” applies as well as to where the caribou prefer to habitat. Maybe there is a reason, and not necessarily human related, as to why there is such a limited few in the “lower 48” and tens of thousands roaming the wilds of Canada and Alaska.
When the livelihood of so many rests on the opinions of so few, one should be very careful when voicing an ideal.
