Area's 'gas cartel' is at it once again

| January 3, 2012 6:00 AM

The Sandpoint area gasoline cartel is doing it again. Gasoline has always had a 10 cent difference between grades. For the past several months all of the area stations have been extending the amount between regular, mid and supreme grades.

In the Sandpoint area, the difference between regular and mid grade has raised from 10 cents to between 24 and 30 cents per gallon and the difference between the regular grade and supreme has risen from 20 cents per gallon to between 32 and 47 cents per gallon.

This cause of this can be caused because of only two reasons. Greed and because they can do it. The only station in the area that deals honestly with the consumer is the Chevron station in Westmond who still maintains the 10 cent difference between grades.
